Gallery Tour | ‘Los Angeles: A Visual Lineage’

Step inside ‘Los Angeles: A Visual Lineage’, a landmark exhibition presented at Woodbury House’s flagship gallery in Mayfair, London.

This exhibition brings together four pivotal figures whose practices have helped shape the visual culture of Los Angeles: Chaz Bojórquez, DEFER, Estevan Oriol and RETNA. Spanning more than five decades, the exhibition traces the evolution of a distinctly West Coast visual language rooted in graffiti, Chicano lettering traditions, photography and contemporary abstraction.

From Chaz Bojórquez’s pioneering Cholo-style lettering, to DEFER’s Spiritual Language, Estevan Oriol’s iconic photographic documentation of Los Angeles street culture, and RETNA’s globally recognised typographic compositions, the exhibition explores how these artists have transformed street-born visual codes into powerful works of contemporary art.

Filmed inside the gallery, this tour offers a closer look at the works on view and the cultural dialogue that connects them — revealing how generations of artists from Los Angeles continue to shape and redefine visual language.

‘Los Angeles: A Visual Lineage’ is on view at Woodbury House, 29 Sackville Street, Mayfair, London, until 24 April 2026. Visitors are welcome during normal gallery hours.
