There are artists who make work, and there are artists whose work makes things happen — in communities, in institutions, in the way people understand what art is for. Caledonia Curry, known as Swoon, is the second kind. From the walls of Brooklyn to the permanent collections of MoMA, the Brooklyn Museum, and Tate Modern, she has spent over two decades building one of the most distinctive and humane practices in contemporary art. 'The Life of the Work' is the first major survey of that practice ever presented in the United Kingdom — thirty-six works spanning more than a decade of making, from the monumental to the intimate.

Woodbury House presents ‘The Life of the Work’, the first major survey of Swoon’s practice ever presented in the United Kingdom. Now on view in Mayfair, it brings together thirty-six works spanning more than a decade, each

Caledonia Curry, known as Swoon, began on the walls of Brooklyn and arrived, entirely on her own terms, in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Brooklyn Museum and Tate Modern. One of the first women to gain international recognition in street art, she has spent over two decades building one of the most distinctive and humane practices in contemporary art. On view now until 13th August 2026 at Woodbury House, 29 Sackville Street, Mayfair.

The work she has built, at full strength

‘The Life of the Work’ brings thirty-six of these works to London, ranging across every register of her output, from hand-sewn mylar portraits reaching nine feet in height to intricate prints, cut-paper assemblages and works mounted onto salvaged doors and windows. Each one is available to acquire.
